Qiaojuan Jia in Prof Mingyuan Gao’s group successfully passed her thesis doctoral defense on May 24, 2012. The defense committee was composed of Prof. Chunhua Yan from Peking University, Prof. Wensheng Yang from Jilin University, Prof. Junlin Yang from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Prof. Zhiyong Tang from National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, and Prof. Dan Wang from Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Chunhua Yan chaired the defense committee. During the defense, Qiaojuan Jia summarized her research work during her doctoral period, and gave an impressing presentation on the topic of “Mechanism Investigation and Size-Regulated Synthesis of Biocompatible Fe₃O₄ Nanocrystals and Their Application in MRI”. The committee members discussed her work seriously, and gave very sound advice and recommendations. Finally, the committee passed her doctorate thesis defense by secret ballots, and proposed to grant her the degree of Doctor of Natural Science.
    Qiaojuan Jia’s research focused on the size-regulated synthesis of biocompatible Fe₃O₄ nanocrystals, their mechanism investigation and application in MRI. Under the guidance and support of her supervisor, Prof. Mingyuan Gao, they successfully achieved differently sized biocompatible Fe₃O₄ nanocrystals regulated by gelification through a single recipe, and further supported by Prof. Fenglong Gu from South China Normal University, they revealed the underlying mechanism through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The related work has been published in Journal of the American Chemistry Society.
    In addition, with the guidance, encouragement, and support of Prof. Gao, Qiaojuan Jia awarded First-class Award of ICCAS-Hangzhou Taida and First-class Award of Director scholarship of ICCAS in 2011, and Second-class Award of EDIC Cup Scholarship in 2012.
